Zipp 202 Firecrest Clincher Review
Zipp Warranty: 2 years
It's been much anticipated and now finally available the same wheel Contador slayed the competition with these last few years but available as a clincher.
Zipp took its 202 wheelset, a climber’s best friend, and remade it by adding revolutionary Firecrest rim and Carbon Clincher technologies.
At 1,375 grams, the 202 Firecrest Carbon Clincher is the lightest in Zipp’s Carbon Clincher lineup and is a plucky all-around performer that floats up mountains and provides superior aerodynamics and stability on the flats and descents. With the rim depth of 32 mm and a maximum rim width of 25.4 mm, the 202 Firecrest Carbon Clincher is the most aerodynamic wheel in its rim depth and is faster than many deeper-section wheels.
The new FC 202 is the benefactor of technologies that Zipp has been developing for years. Smooth braking from it's carbon clincher materials and descending in the freezing cold on that same road the 202 felt so good going up they left nothing wanting for a aggressive decent. Front and rear wheels felt good through the swooping bends and could only be described as pure riding pleasure. Nothing like the older 202 tubulars I had some years back these are just as good going up as coming down.
