Northwave's new Extreme Tech SBS Road shoe is one of the most technologically advanced shoes ever made. It's also one of the lightest and has a unique sold that solves the Look vs. Speedplay dilema. Top this all with the fact that it's one of the best looking shoes on the market and it's $324 is looking a lot better than the $500 many other Italian brands are asking for their flagship shoes.
Seamless molded upper and a super-thin carbon-fibre sole.
Extreme Tech SBS version has the same sole and much the same seamless upper but the closure features an alloy cam lever and a rubbery soft-touch wheel which pulls on a cord to adjust the upper's tension. Northwave call this collectively 'Speed Lace Winch System' and the cord is worth mentioning not just because they call it a 'Dyneema' cord - borrowed from the parachute business and stronger than steel - but that it's heat-treated and wax coated so it doesn't kink. Apart from the ferocious red and yellow color option, there is also strictly-Euro white and Red black white version that replaces the Leopard team shoe that has now been scraped.
The Extreme Tech SBS is both Look 3 hole and Speedplay compatiable at the same time. See the inserted images below for this. Northwave provide the shims which fit to standard Speedplay cleats eliminating the cleat base and reducing stack height.
Weight: 198g (Size 42)
Northwave carbon sole can accept both Speedplay and Look cleats.
